Overview

The "Scan" feature of the Scanner App is designed to streamline the process of adding items to a session by using the device's camera to scan barcodes. This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to use this feature effectively.

Accessing the Scan Feature

To begin scanning items into a session:

  1. Navigate to the "Items" screen of an active session.

  2. Press the "Scan" button located at the bottom of the screen.

Scanning Process

Activating the Camera

  • Once the "Scan" button is pressed, your device’s camera will activate automatically.

Scanning an Item

  • Position the Barcode: Hold the device so the barcode on the item’s tag is within the camera's viewfinder. The app is designed to recognize the barcode when it is properly aligned.

  • Automatic Detection: The app will automatically detect and scan the barcode. There is no need to press a button; simply ensure the barcode is clear and unobstructed.

  • Item Validation: The app checks the scanned code against the inventory database. If the item is recognized, it will be immediately added to the session.

Post-Scan

  • Confirmation: Once an item is successfully scanned and added, you will see a confirmation on the screen. The item’s details will appear in the session's item list.

  • Continue Scanning: You can continue to scan more items without interruption. Each successful scan will automatically update the session’s item list.

Best Practices for Scanning

  • Good Lighting: Ensure there is sufficient lighting to make the barcode clearly visible to the camera.

  • Steady Handling: Hold the device steady while scanning to prevent blurring, which can interfere with barcode recognition.

  • Barcode Condition: Make sure the barcode is not damaged or obscured, as this can affect the scanning process.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • Barcode Not Recognized: Ensure the barcode is not damaged and the camera lens is clean. Try adjusting the angle or the distance of the device from the barcode.

  • Camera Issues: If the camera does not activate or fails to scan, check your device’s permissions to ensure the Scanner App has access to use the camera.
